Refreshing and Healthy Shamrock Shake

March 13, 20243 min read

This Healthy Shamrock Shake combines 8 nutritious and delicious ingredients like avocados, Greek yogurt and spinach, and you can blend it up in under 5 minutes!

A perfect St. Patrick's Day treat that you can feel good about, no added colors, dyes or other crazy ingredients! Just simple, delicious goodness. Ditch the golden arches and whip up your own fun and festive Shamrock Shake instead!

Healthy Green Shamrock Shake or smoothie

Ingredients:

  1. 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based milk of your choice) can use water as well...

  2. 1/4 C Vanilla or plain Greek Yogurt (look for one low in sugar)

  3. 1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted

  4. 1-2 Scoops Favorite Vanilla Protein Powder (I use Biotrust)

  5. 1/2 C. Frozen spinach leaves

  6. 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, for added texture and nutrition)

  7. Ice cubes (optional, for a colder and thicker shake)

  8. Optional-- I find I don't need this with the protein powder Stevia/Honey or your preferred natural sweetener, to taste

  9. A few fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients and have them ready for blending.

  2. Combine Ingredients: In a blender, add the unsweetened almond milk, frozen banana slices, avocado, peppermint extract, fresh spinach leaves, and chia seeds (if using). If you prefer a colder and thicker shake, add a handful of ice cubes as well.

  3. Sweeten to Taste: Start by adding a small amount of your preferred natural sweetener (like stevia) to the blender. Blend the ingredients and taste the shake. Adjust the sweetness according to your preference.

  4. Blend Until Smooth: Blend all the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If necessary, stop and scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure everything is well combined.

  5. Check Consistency: If the shake is too thick, add more almond milk, a little at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.

  6. Serve and Garnish: Pour the Shamrock Shake into a glass and garnish with a few fresh mint leaves for an extra burst of flavor and a festive touch.

  7. Enjoy Responsibly: Sip and savor your healthy Shamrock Shake, reveling in the delightful blend of minty freshness and creamy goodness. Feel free to share this guilt-free treat with friends and family, and celebrate the holiday season without compromising your commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Conclusion: Indulging in festive treats can still align with your health goals when you opt for nutritious alternatives. This healthy Shamrock Shake is not only a delightful way to celebrate, but it also provides a dose of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Enjoy the green goodness guilt-free, and make this refreshing shake a part of your St. Patrick's Day traditions.

Smoothie tips:

  • Watching your added sugars? Look for low sugar Greek yogurt, such as the Two Good brand which contains just 2 grams of sugar per 5.3 ounce cup!

  • Not a fan of honey? You can sub with your favorite sweetener such as maple syrup, coconut sugar, stevia or agave.

  • Need to avoid dairy? Substitute your favorite dairy-free yogurt to make it dairy-free! recommend using honey or vanilla flavored yogurt. If you use plain yogurt, you will need to increase the amount of honey so that it's sweet enough. OR add a banana for added texture instead.

  • Can I use fresh spinach? Of course! The frozen spinach just helps make it a thick and creamy shake, so you'll need to increase the amount of ice and blend to desired thickness.

  • Try some fun and festive add ons! Top your shake with whip cream, sprinkle on some chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, some coconut flakes or dust with unsweetened dark cocoa powder. For more of a chocolate mint twist, add 1 tsp. of dark cocoa powder to your shake and blend.
